Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will soon announce its new captain for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
According to sources, Faf du Plessis, who captained RCB last year, has joined the Delhi Capitals this season. This development has sparked significant speculation about the next captain of RCB. Some RCB fans believe that Virat Kohli might take up the captaincy once again.
During the auction, RCB made significant efforts to acquire Rishabh Pant but could not include him in their squad. If they had succeeded, Rishabh Pant might have been a strong contender to lead the team.
RCB secured left-handed all-rounder Krunal Pandya in the auction for ₹5.75 crore. While Krunal lacks extensive IPL captaincy experience, he has captained Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in six matches, winning three of them. On the domestic front, Krunal has been captaining Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024.
Though no official announcement has been made yet, there is a fair chance Krunal Pandya could take on the captaincy role for RCB. This would mark a new chapter of responsibility for him.
RCB fans are eagerly hoping for the team to win its first IPL title while Virat Kohli remains a part of the squad. As in the previous 17 seasons, fans are fervently praying for their team to dominate in the 18th edition of the IPL. They might even rally behind a slogan like “The 18th IPL belongs to Jersey Number 18!“
